Stardew Valley is a fun little game as it is, but adding some wacky and wild mods is a great way to spice things up! However, there are a lot of mods out there, and picking the best one will depend entirely on your gameplay style. To help you decide which mods to download, this Stardew Valley mod guide is filled with mods that will take your gameplay experience to the next level.

Note: As with all mods, there is a chance that things can go wrong and your game could get ruined. Make sure to consider this when modding the game, and always make backups when possible!
Best Mods for Stardew Valley
There are a lot of places where you can get mods from; some of the most popular mode sites are:
Below are our current favorites, some of which are purely cosmetic and some which improve the gameplay experience by adding new content to the game.
Do we even have to say how great this mod is? This mod allows you to change the appearance of several animals in the game to pokemon counterparts. Currently there are several different animals that can be swapped out, and the list is slowly growing!
Not only is this mod adorable, it's fairly simple to install. For most of them, you simply need to navigate to your game folder, find the Content folder, and then Animals. Swap out the mod file for the appropriate animal and voila! One shiny new pokemon has been added to your farm.
Colorful Hardwood Fences
If you're like us, you have your farm neatly laid out with pathways and fences. However, if you are also like us, you are getting a bit tired of looking at the same colored fencing. This mod, created by Kiatsu, changes that by adding a variety of colors for you to use. Another simple file swap, follow the basic instructions and in seconds you will be sporting some brand new colored fences. We're fans of the purple one, how about you?
Some mods just make us laugh, and that's more than enough to be awesome. This one here, created by Toumato, changes the default Wizard portrait into that of Gandalf the Grey from Lord of the Rings. That's all it does, and we couldn't be happier!
Fishing can be tough, particularly early on. Some of those harder fish like to bounce all over, causing the fishing minigame to last minutes at a time if you're unlucky. This mod aims to fix that, making fishing a simpler, more relaxing experience. Created by Siddybear, the mod is easy to install and will make your fishing experience a more enjoyable one.
At first glance, this might not seem like the funnest mod. Who wants to pay taxes, in a videogame! However, for those out there seeking a more hardcore, authentic farming game, this is right up your alley.
bdawson1993, the mod creator, has done a great job of implementing a basic tax structure that doesn't feel overly crushing. With plans to add new features to it in the future, this mod has a lot of potential!
This mod is pretty self explanatory, it allows you to cheat! Obviously this can ruin the game, but if you're looking for a fun, casual experience than this is the mod for you.
Adding in dozens of options, you can have one hit kills, max gold or crank up your movement speed so you run around like Sonic. This mod is a little more involved to install, but there is a very helpful tutorial right on the mods main page to walk you through it. If anything, we suggest checking this mod out simply for the warp function it has. Teleporting from area to area is very fun.
CJB Show Item Sell Prices
Another simple mod brought to us by CJBok, this one lets you see the sell price of an item while it sits in your inventory. Although not mindblowing, it's handy tool for people looking to maximize their profits, down to every gold piece.
It's also useful when your inventory fills up, and you want to find the cheapest thing you have to toss aside!
One of the toughest things to manage in Stardew Valley is the Energy. You are constantly burning it with every action, and it's tough to refill without making costly food or taking time out of your day to rest up.
This mod from natfoth changes that, by allowing you to regenerate Energy slowly. It's a subtle touch, but can go a long way to alleviating the pain of running out of energy before it's noon. Do keep in mind that this mod requires that SMAPI, a custom modding tool for Stardew be installed.
[https://NPC Map Locations NPC Locations]
Part of what makes this game great is the fact that each NPC has its own life, all the villager will have their own different schedule that will change according to the season or the weather, and while this mechanic certainly makes Pelican Town feel more realistic, it can be hard knowing where everyone is at all times.
That's why this mod is so helpful. A little icon of each villager will show in the game's map, and it updates in real-time so you can find someone even if that character is walking from one place to another.
New Content Mods
Stardew Valley Expanded
This one is the must-have mod for long-time players who are looking for new reasons to spend more time in the game. The Stardew Valley Expanded Mod expands the original game, adding 26 new NPCs, 33 new locations, 230 character events, 18 fish, two additional farm maps, questlines, and many more!
Stardew Valley +
This mod, being developed by slamerz is still early on, but shows lots of promise. The ultimate goal is to add in dozens of new crops, fish and other items. Currently very early, they only have 9 new items, but even that is a great start!
This is likely to be one of those mods that has a long life, so make sure to keep an eye on it and check back every few days to see what progress has been made. More variety is a great thing in a game like this, so bring on the new items!
